Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday arrived in Kebbi State to meet with government officials and the families of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

Shettima’s aircraft touched down at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi, accompanied by the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, and other senior government officials, DAILY POST reports.

The Vice President, who travelled on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, is expected to convey the President’s message of condolence and receive a detailed briefing on the abduction for onward communication to the Presidency.

The attack on the Kebbi school left the institution’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, dead. He reportedly confronted the gunmen in an effort to prevent the girls from being taken.

The Nigeria Police confirmed that a combined tactical team has been deployed to scour surrounding forests in search of the abducted students.

President Tinubu condemned the incident, extended condolences to the victims’ families, and postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, for the 20th G20 Summit and the 7th AU-EU Summit, respectively, to remain abreast of the situation.
