The leader of the People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been transferred from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto.

His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed the development on X, noting that Kanu is now far from his family, legal team, and supporters.

On Thursday, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges.

Kanu was handed life terms for counts one, four, five, and six of the seven-count charge.

He also received 20 years and five years’ imprisonment on counts three and seven, respectively, as directed by the court.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Omotosho said the prosecution had successfully proven every allegation against the IPOB leader.

The relocation to Sokoto is expected to limit Kanu’s immediate access to his lawyers and well-wishers while serving his sentence.
