Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected kidnapper allegedly caught while negotiating a N20 million ransom for the release of an abducted victim in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was picked up on November 22, 2025, at the Jandei–Kulamu area following a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Umar Mohammed said Geyi has long been on the radar of security agencies and is believed to be part of a kidnapping gang operating around the Wukari axis.
Mohammed said preliminary findings linked him to the abduction of one Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of the Jandei–Kulala area who was kidnapped on November 13 and remains in captivity.
He explained that troops tracked and arrested the suspect after intercepting a phone conversation in which he allegedly confirmed the victim’s continued detention and demanded N20 million as ransom.
Mohammed added that the suspect is being interrogated to aid efforts to locate the victim and dismantle the network behind the kidnapping.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for the successful operation, reaffirming the Brigade’s resolve to crush criminal elements across Taraba.
