Edo State Police Command has assured the public that it is intensifying efforts to rescue a couple abducted in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area, whose distress videos have continued to generate anxiety across social media platforms.

The victims, believed to be indigenes of the community, were seen in several circulating clips appealing for help as their captors allegedly demanded N50 million ransom.

One of the videos showed the kidnappers issuing threats and placing pressure on the family.

Reacting to the incident, Command spokesperson Moses Yamu said in a statement on Friday that operatives immediately commenced investigations and activated rescue operations as soon as the report reached the police.

According to him, anyone linked to the crime would be tracked down and prosecuted.

“The attention of the Edo State Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media alleging the kidnapping of a couple in Aviele, Edo North,” the statement read.

“Upon receiving the information, all necessary operational and investigative measures were immediately activated to ensure the victims’ safe rescue and to apprehend those responsible.

“The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a comprehensive investigation, and all individuals found to be complicit, whether directly or indirectly, will be arrested and prosecuted in line with existing laws.”

Yamu appealed for calm, urging residents to provide credible information that could support ongoing operations.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that further updates would be provided as the situation progresses.
