Suspected terrorists who seized a bride and several guests during a wedding ceremony in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have reached out to the affected families two days after the attack, but without making any ransom demand.

The father of the bride, Malam Umaru Chacho, told journalists in the community that the callers demanded direct communication with the district head.

“when they called they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town.

We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting that they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler,” he said.

Chacho said 13 persons were whisked away in the raid 11 females and two males while several others were left with varying degrees of injury.

“A relative of the bride who resisted the terrorists was shot and sustained a severe gunshot injury that almost took his life,” he said.

He decried the escalating insecurity in the area, noting that over 30 residents had been killed in Chacho village within the last five years due to recurring bandit incursions.
