The Ondo State Police Command has announced a ban on fireworks and intensified security operations across the state during the festive season.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, stated that the measures aim to protect lives and property before, during, and after the Yuletide celebrations.

He expressed concern over a recent rise in false alarms and staged kidnapping incidents, warning that those involved would face decisive action.

Speaking during his weekly lecture and address to officers, CP Lawal commended the operational readiness and alertness of officers across the state. He directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to take firm control of their jurisdictions, ordering aggressive patrols, intelligence-led raids on identified black spots, and strategic deployment of covert operatives to improve intelligence gathering.

The Commissioner explained that fireworks could create unnecessary panic and may be exploited by criminals, justifying the ban during the festive period. He also instructed DPOs to ensure proper personnel deployment, removal of road obstructions, and smooth flow of human and vehicular traffic as part of the security arrangements.

CP Lawal urged motorists and road users to remain vigilant, exercise restraint, and avoid excessive speeding, assuring residents and travelers of safety across highways, hinterlands, and waterways.

He emphasized that maintaining security is a collective responsibility and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working closely with other agencies to sustain peace in the state.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its resolve not to allow any individual or group to jeopardize the peace currently enjoyed in Ondo State.
