The Bauchi State Police Command has intercepted a major drug distribution channel in Ningi Local Government Area with the arrest of a suspected trafficker, Ogbu Simon, and the seizure of narcotics valued at more than ₦12 million.

The breakthrough followed credible intelligence from a vigilant resident who alerted authorities to suspicious movements around a shop reportedly operated by the suspect.

Simon was alleged to have been ferrying psychotropic substances from Onitsha, Anambra State, for distribution across Ningi and adjoining communities.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the command, CSP Mohammed Wakil, revealed that detectives acting on the tip-off executed a raid on November 26 under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer of Ningi, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu.

The operation led to the recovery of 17,500 sachets of Tramadol and 487 packs of Diazepam (D5), popularly known as “Yellow Voice.”

According to the police, the follow-up arrest was carried out by the Operation Restore Peace (ORP) team headed by CSP Abdulrazak Fada.

The suspect was said to have admitted to supplying narcotics to several markets within and outside the Ningi axis.

The command noted that the recovered drugs, estimated at ₦12.2 million, alongside the suspect, will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to clamp down on drug-related offences and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies in the fight against crime.
