Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has praised the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac, for sustaining the legacy of her late father, Alhaji Adefemi Adegoke Yusuf.
The Governor gave the commendation on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the 40-year remembrance of late Alhaji Yusuf in Owo.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said the many years of selfless services that Mrs Isaac has given to her community, the state and the nation reflect the training she received from her late father.
The Governor commended the efforts of the Commissioner in maintaining the fiscal discipline of the administration which has led to the blockage of leakages and drastic reduction in the domestic debts of the government.
This, he added, has enabled the administration to devote more resources towards the execution of capital projects for the benefit of the people of the State.
He highlighted infrastructural projects across the state, maintaining that every local government currently has at least one active road construction project, aside from those already completed and commissioned.
The Governor disclosed that contracts for the approved 5km road per local government area will be awarded in the first week of January 2026.
On security, Governor Aiyedatiwa said his administration had approved the recruitment of 500 additional personnel into the Amotekun Corps to enhance surveillance and protection across forests and farmsteads. He assured that with the reinforcement, incidents of attacks in remote agricultural areas would soon be eliminated.
The Governor expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation and continuous support, promising sustained delivery of quality governance across all communities.
He reaffirmed the state’s firm alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the overwhelming support enjoyed by the party has positioned Ondo as an unquestionable stronghold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He restated his earlier proclamation that Ondo remains committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the unity displayed during the last governorship election, when the APC swept all 18 local government areas, remains the clearest indicator of the state’s political direction.
Governor Aiyedatiwa recounted the 366,781 votes recorded by the APC in the governorship election, which more than doubled the opposition’s tally of about 150,000, adding that many of those who contested against the ruling party have since defected to the APC, raising the party’s consolidated strength to nearly 600,000 votes.
The Governor, however, insisted that the 2027 general elections must deliver nothing less than one million votes for the party, stressing that the confidence he reposed in the electorate remains unshaken.
Earlier, in his word of exaltation, the Grand Chief Imam of Owo Kingdom, Sheikh Yunus Abdullahi Anola, recalled the deep uncertainty that gripped the community following the death of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
He said many residents had resigned themselves to the belief that progress had stalled, but the emergence of what he described as the “Our Ease government” had revived confidence and renewed hope across Owo.
According to him, the governor’s decision to appoint both the deputy governor and the Commissioner for Finance from Owo has been warmly received as a gesture of recognition and trust.
He added that the infrastructural turnaround evident in the state capital is now reflecting in Owo through the installation of street lights and the rehabilitation of key roads.
Sheikh Anola also used the occasion to remind the faithful of the importance of showing kindness to their parents, whether they are alive or deceased.
He stressed that honouring parents is a compulsory obligation in Islam, noting that their sacrifices form the foundation of every child’s existence. He urged the people to uphold this duty as a demonstration of gratitude to God and respect for their lineage.
Responding, the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowunmi Isaac, filled with emotion, reminisced on her father’s life and passing and how she navigated her way through life after his exit.
She thanked Owo community for the support given to her and also appreciated everyone who graced the occasion.
The event attracted top government officials, including Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, and Secretary to the State Government Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, members of the State Executive Council and other top government functionaries.
