Fire gutted a residential property belonging to a former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Yerima, on Saturday in Abuja, destroying four out of five blocks of three-bedroom flats.
The incident occurred at the property located on Nelson Mandela Street in the highbrow Asokoro area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The fire was said to have originated from solar panels installed on the roof of one of the buildings before spreading rapidly to adjoining flats.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Public Affairs of the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, said the fire was reported at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, quoting the Head of FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team, Monday Addie.
“No life was lost in the incident. However, four of the five flats were completely razed by the fire,” she said.
Isa added that several personal belongings, including furniture, clothing, food items and other household effects, were destroyed in the inferno.
She said emergency responders from FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the FCT Police Command were deployed to the scene and were able to bring the fire under control.
