The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, has launched an investigation into allegations that a baby died at the facility following a power outage.
The hospital disclosed this through its Public Relations Unit after a lawyer, identified as M.A. Danlami, alleged in a social media post that a woman lost her baby due to lack of electricity at the centre.
According to the management, the allegation has been formally reported and escalated, with a comprehensive inquiry already underway to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
FMC Jalingo said it treats all complaints with utmost seriousness, particularly those bordering on patient safety and emergency care, and is committed to identifying and addressing any lapses that could affect service delivery.
While acknowledging the infrastructural challenges confronting many public hospitals across the country, the management maintained that the centre has contingency measures, including backup power and emergency systems, to cushion the effects of such disruptions on critical medical services.
The hospital added that similar complaints have been received in the past and addressed where necessary, assuring members of the public that the ongoing investigation would be thorough, impartial and guided strictly by verified facts.
