Panic broke out at Gari Dam in Gari Local Government Area of Kano State after a 15-year-old boy, Yusuf Danliti, fell into an open body of water but was later rescued by firefighters.

The Kano State Fire Service said it swiftly intervened following a distress call alerting it to the incident at the dam.

According to a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the fire service “received a distress call at about 12:00 pm from Usman Garba, reporting an incident at Gari Dam” on Saturday, 13 December 2025.

He said personnel from the Gari Fire Station were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found that “a 15-year-old boy had fallen into an open water.”

“The victim was rescued unconscious and subsequently handed over to the Village Head of the area, Lawan Zangina, for further action,” the Service said.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, cautioned parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their wards, urging them “to be vigilant and closely monitor their children,” particularly against “local swimming in open water,” which he warned “has continued to result in loss of lives.”

The Fire Service reiterated its commitment to public safety, assuring residents that it “remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.”
