The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the alleged robbery and killing of a young man whose corpse was discovered in a forest in Ngaski Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, it was gathered, occurred on Tuesday and came to light after the body of 25-year-old Ibrahim Yahaya was found at about 8:30 a.m. in Bakin Dutsi Forest, a remote part of Ngaski LGA.
The discovery threw the community into mourning and reignited concerns over insecurity along forest routes commonly used by farmers and commuters.
Police operatives, acting on what the command described as credible intelligence, reportedly tracked down and arrested the suspect, identified as Aminu Adamu of Yauri Local Government Area, at about 2:20 p.m. the same day.
The suspect was said to have been found in possession of a Haojue motorcycle believed to have been stolen from the deceased.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said the arrest followed intensive investigations launched immediately after the body was discovered.
“Following swift investigative efforts, the police arrested one Aminu Adamu, aged 20, in possession of the motorcycle earlier stolen from the deceased. In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation,” Usman said.
He added that the command was determined to ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice, while measures are being intensified to prevent a recurrence across the state.
The police also sought to allay public fears over the incident.
“Members of the public are encouraged to go about their lawful activities and continue to support the police with timely and useful information,” he stated.
The arrest comes as the command sustains security operations aimed at curbing violent crimes, particularly in forested and border communities where criminals often take advantage of difficult terrain to evade arrest.
