The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old suspected motorcycle thief and recovered two motorcycles during an operation by operatives of the Ore Division.

The suspect, identified as Okemini, was intercepted on December 11, 2025, alongside two other suspects.

The accomplices reportedly escaped during the operation, abandoning their motorcycles, while Okemini was apprehended.

Police sources said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects are members of a syndicate that specializes in snatching motorcycles in different parts of the state.

The two motorcycles recovered at the scene have been registered as exhibits.

The arrested suspect, who is currently in police custody, has made statements that are said to be aiding efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.

Further investigations are ongoing to fully unravel the activities of the criminal network, while intensified efforts are underway to arrest the escaped suspects.

The police said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the operatives for their prompt and professional conduct, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adebowale Lawal, stressed the importance of intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations in curbing criminal activities.

He reassured residents of the command’s determination to ensure the safety of lives and property across Ondo State, directing Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to remain vigilant and proactive, especially during and beyond the festive period.

The command also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening effective and responsive policing nationwide.

Residents were urged to continue cooperating with police operatives during stop-and-search operations and to promptly report any suspicious movement or individuals to the nearest police station or security post.

The police further assured the public that adequate security measures, both covert and overt, have been put in place before, during and after the yuletide, warning that criminals would have no hiding place in the state.
