The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, has deployed 1,500 personnel across the state to ensure smooth traffic flow during the yuletide season.

The State Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Akure.

Ibitoye said the deployment comprises 700 regular marshals and 800 special marshals, adding that ambulances and tow vehicles have also been stationed at strategic locations across the state to enhance prompt response to emergencies.

According to him, the primary responsibility of the deployed personnel is to ensure free flow of traffic, prevent gridlock and remove obstructions on major roads within the state.

The sector commander explained that rescue teams would be on the highways round the clock, noting that the command would also organise mobile court sittings to try road traffic offenders during the period.

“Traditionally, every year the corps mobilizes personnel and resources to ensure that there is smooth traffic flow during yuletide period and we have prepared and deployed our men.

“We are also collaborating with the other agencies such as police to ensure traffic flow at the strategic places across the state especially the axis of Akure, Owo/ Ilesha and Ore among others.

“We will be there to ensure travellers get to where they are going without any hiccups so that we can all celebrate the festival periods together in peace and enter the new year without any crash recorded.”

Ibitoye urged motorists to exercise patience on the roads, avoid speeding and adopt defensive driving techniques during and after the yuletide season.

“Please, if you see anybody misbehaving on the road, please give a space for the person to move because when traffic occurs nobody can tell the person that will be injured or killed.

“Let everyone accommodate the failure and and the mistakes of all other road users so that all of us can stay alive and make the road very safe,” he said.
