Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.
Announcing their defection on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the lawmakers’ letters, in which he cited “divisions and unresolved political crisis in the PDP” as the reason for their exit.
The legislators said the lingering internal crisis in the PDP had made it difficult for them to realise their political aspirations, adding that they had resolved to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Their defection further weakens the PDP’s presence in Rivers State, reducing its membership in the House from 12 to two.
The development comes barely a week after three other Rivers lawmakers, Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead, also dumped the PDP for the APC.
The only PDP members left in the Rivers caucus of the House are the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.
