Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his decision to formally join the Accord Party, aligning with his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The singer disclosed this on his verified X handle on Tuesday, saying he would be in Osogbo on Wednesday to collect his membership card.
“I Will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY 😇 Cc @AAdeleke_01,” the singer wrote.
The move comes about two weeks after Governor Adeleke formally adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The governor announced his defection on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party.
At the event, Adeleke explained that his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party was informed by the leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke had said.
He added that the party’s philosophy of welfarism aligned with his administration’s priorities.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare,” he stated.
The governor had earlier announced his resignation from the PDP on December 1, confirming that he submitted his resignation letter on November 4, 2025, to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
Davido had reacted to his uncle’s resignation by reposting the announcement with the caption, “Jeje…”
The singer’s planned visit to collect his party card at the Imole House in Osogbo has continued to generate reactions on social media, with observers noting the increasing intersection of celebrity influence and political participation in the country.
