The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a robbery suspect and recovered a motorcycle stolen during an attack on two residents in the Olorunda Aba area of the state.

The arrest followed a distress call received at about 10:30 p.m. on December 25, 2025, which prompted operatives of the Olorunda Aba Division to swiftly mobilise to the scene, the command said in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.

According to the police, two armed men riding an unregistered motorcycle and wielding machetes attacked the victims, identified as Mutiu Adeyemo and Akinpelu Ojo, at Adanla Area, Eniosa, Olorunda Aba, and made away with their TVS motorcycle.

“Upon sighting the police patrol team, the suspects attempted to flee with both their motorcycle and the stolen one, which led to a hot pursuit,” the statement said.

Olayinka said the chase forced one of the suspects to abandon the stolen motorcycle before escaping into a nearby bush, while the second suspect reportedly fell from the motorcycle while trying to evade arrest.

“The second suspect, later identified as Sunday Onah, was successfully apprehended by the patrol team,” the statement added.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested suspect confessed to the robbery and admitted involvement in similar criminal activities in the past. The stolen motorcycle was recovered and secured as an exhibit.

The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigation into the case had been intensified.

“Upon the conclusion of investigation, the arrested suspect will be charged to court,” the statement noted.
Commending the operatives for their “professionalism, prompt response, and dedication to duty,” the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further probe.

Haruna also lauded the Inspector-General of Police for his “purposeful leadership, strategic direction, and sustained institutional support,” which he said had continued to enhance the operational effectiveness of the force.

The command reassured residents of its resolve to protect lives and property and urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
