Four persons lost their lives in a tragic crash that disrupted the annual Eggon carnival in Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Sunday, FRSC officials have confirmed.

Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said the three heavy-duty trucks and occurred as a procession moved from the Palace of the Aren Eggon, the paramount ruler of the Eggon people, to Eggon Community Secondary School—the carnival venue.

Sabo-Adikwu said several other participants sustained injuries of varying severity and are currently receiving treatment at the Nasarawa-Eggon General Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Federal University Lokoja Teaching Hospital, Lafia.

He attributed the crash to reckless driving and called for a prompt probe.

An eyewitness account described how one truck first veered into the procession near the school and was subsequently struck from behind by two following trucks, worsening the carnage.

The witness blamed the drivers’ recklessness and urged a thorough investigation, adding that articulated-vehicle operators should undergo mandatory drug screening before being allowed on the roads.

Authorities have stepped up inquiries as emergency teams work to assist the injured and restore safety in the area.
