Police dismiss bomb claims over Kebbi hospital blast

The Kebbi State Police Command has ruled out any bomb explosion or aerial activity in the blast that rocked the General Hospital, Bagudo, on Tuesday, saying the incident was caused by overheating equipment.

The explosion, which occurred in the early hours of the day, triggered panic among residents of the area. The police, however, confirmed that no life was lost and no injury was recorded.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said preliminary investigations showed that the incident resulted from an inferno that led to the overheating of gas cylinders in air-conditioning units and refrigerators within the facility.

“The loud bangs heard were caused by an inferno which overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders,” Usman said.

He explained that thorough checks conducted by Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) experts, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, found no trace of explosives.

Usman stressed that expert assessments confirmed that neither a bomb nor any form of aerial activity was involved in the incident.

He urged members of the public to discount unverified reports and rely only on official information from security agencies.
“The situation is fully under control.

There was no casualty, and the Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and transparency,” the police spokesman said.
