Former Ogun State House of Assembly member, Hon. Musa Moruf, has been abducted from his residence in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, security sources said.
The abduction occurred at about 7:00pm on Tuesday while Moruf was performing prayers at the mosque inside his compound, a source who spoke on condition of anonymity told reporters.
The source said the ex-lawmaker struggled with his captors for roughly 20 minutes before they overpowered him and led him into a nearby bush.
Witnesses said the assailants fired sporadic shots to keep residents at bay, and unconfirmed reports indicate some people in the vicinity sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said security operatives have activated a rescue operation and deployed the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit to the area.
“The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the reported abduction of Hon. Musa Moruf in Ibiade, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. Security measures have been activated, including the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the public is advised to remain calm pending official updates,” DSP Babaseyi told said.
Moruf served in the Sixth Assembly as the representative for Ogun Waterside State Constituency.
Community leaders and residents have urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his release, while appealing for calm as investigations and search operations continue.
