A Point-of-Sale operator, identified as 38-year-old Raphael Eletanye, was killed during an armed robbery on the evening of January 3 along Murtala Muhammad Way, Edo State police have said.
Police said the attack occurred at about 9:50pm near Upper Uwa Junction, where Eletanye ran his business.
Witnesses told investigators that several men arrived in an unregistered white minibus, stormed the stall and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The Divisional Police Officer from Esigie Division was dispatched immediately.
It was leant that officers found the wounded trader and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary inquiries indicate he was shot in the thigh and that the attackers made off with an undisclosed sum of money.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident and said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full-scale investigation to track down the perpetrators.
