The Adamawa State Police Command said on Sunday that two men have been arrested in connection with the killing of three women amid renewed communal violence around Lamurde Local Government Area.
Police identified the suspects as 30-year-old William Joshua and 23-year-old Ezekiel Luka, both residents of Tigno village.
The command said the victims were attacked on Saturday, January 3, 2026, while working on a farm near Tigno.
In a statement, the force’s public relations officer, Suleiman Nguroje, said officers recovered 29 rounds of live ammunition, an AK-47 magazine and N90,000 in cash during follow-up operations that led to the arrests.
He added that the detentions followed credible intelligence provided to the command.
Nguroje quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, urging calm and assuring residents that security agents were taking all lawful steps to track down the perpetrators and their sponsors.
The arrests come days after a previous outbreak of violence in Lamurde that left more than 10 people dead, an episode that attracted attention after reports that security personnel may have been involved in some killings.
The renewed bloodshed underscored lingering tensions between the Bachama and Chobo communities and the urgent need for de-escalation and credible protection for civilians.
