Suspected terrorists attacked a police border patrol outpost in New Kalli village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, late on Monday, setting fire to officers accommodation and nearby farm produce.
The assault took place around midnight, coming less than 48 hours after a separate deadly raid at Kasuwan Daji in the same council area.
Witnesses said the gunmen arrived on motorcycles, forced entry into the outpost, destroyed property belonging to officers and looted personal items before igniting piles of harvested crops.
No deaths were reported, but the arson has deepened fear among farmers in the area and fuelled calls for stronger protection of rural communities.
Musa Saidu, the Borgu local government disaster officer, said security agencies were informed immediately and that damage assessments were under way.
Niger State Police Command confirmed the attack.
Spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said officers at the post engaged the assailants in a gun battle and succeeded in driving them off, but the outpost was gutted by fire during the exchange.
He added that reinforcements had been deployed and efforts to restore security and investigate the incident were ongoing.
Residents urged authorities to step up patrols and provide lasting security for farmlands and market routes that have become frequent targets for marauding gangs.
