Security operatives have rescued 20 villagers abducted from Dunfawa community in the Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were seized on Saturday when armed bandits invaded the village, throwing residents into panic. However, sustained pressure from joint security patrols forced the attackers to retreat and abandon their captives.
Security sources said the rescue operation was concluded around 4 pm in the Moriki axis after troops intensified combing of the surrounding bush and farmlands.
“All the 20 abducted persons were recovered alive and without injuries,” a source said. “They were taken to a government hospital for routine medical checks, debriefed by security agencies and later reunited with their families.”
Following the incident, security patrols have been reinforced in the area to forestall further attacks and to aid ongoing efforts to track other criminal groups operating in nearby communities.
Residents of Dunfawa expressed relief over the development and urged authorities to sustain the security presence to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
