Surprise as church rolls out stipend for unemployed members

Harvesters International Christian Centre has unveiled a temporary welfare scheme to support members who are out of work but actively serve in the church.

The Senior Pastor, Bolaji Idowu, announced on Sunday that eligible members would receive N50,000 monthly for three months to help them stay afloat while searching for new employment.

Speaking during the service, Idowu said the initiative was designed as a stabilisation measure for those who had recently lost their jobs and were in transition.

He explained that the programme would cover leaders and volunteers serving in various capacities across the church.

According to him, the church had a responsibility to care for its own and provide practical support in difficult times.

Pastor Idowu urged affected members to register with the church administration to benefit from the scheme, adding that the process would be simple and based largely on trust built through service.

The announcement was greeted with applause from the congregation, many of whom described the move as timely and compassionate, especially amid prevailing economic pressures.

Church members said the gesture reflected a commitment to community and mutual support beyond spiritual guidance.
