The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men alleged to have attempted killing a woman during a violent attack in Akure, the state capital.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed this yesterday, said the arrest followed a distress call from a resident, identified as Fasuru, of Oke-Ijebu area of the city.
Jimoh explained that operatives from the Ijapo Divisional Headquarters raced to the scene and met the suspects assaulting the victim.
The unnamed woman was reportedly beaten to a state of unconsciousness before officers intervened and rescued her. She was thereafter taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
The suspects, simply identified as Sodiq and Emmanuel, have been taken into custody.
The case, according to the police, has been transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, restated the Command’s resolve to clamp down on violent crimes across the state.
He warned against acts capable of endangering lives and pledged swift response to distress calls.
The Command lauded the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the reforms and technology-driven measures said to be improving policing outcomes in the state.
Lawal urged residents to stay law-abiding and continue to share credible intelligence that will help prevent crime and protect lives and property.
The police advised the public to reach the Command through 0906 058 8958 or its social media channels.
