Suspected armed bandits stormed the National Park Service base at Oloka in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving several personnel feared dead.
The incident, which reportedly unfolded around 9pm, threw the quiet community into panic as the attackers overpowered security operatives on duty.
Sources said that no fewer than five members of the park service were gunned down during the onslaught, though official casualty figures are still being verified.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident but said security agencies were still piecing together the full account of what transpired.
According to him, “There was an attack by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on operatives of the National Park.
The Commissioner of Police, alongside other service commanders, is already heading to the scene.”
Ayanlade added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, had ordered immediate deployment of tactical squads, including mobile policemen and bomb disposal units, to forestall further violence.
Security forces have since cordoned off the area, while combing operations are underway to track the assailants.
