Two Nigerians, identified as Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, are facing deportation from India after being arrested by the Delhi Police for alleged immigration violations.

The duo was reportedly apprehended during a routine patrol by security operatives on New Year’s Eve in the Indian capital.

According to findings by the police, the suspects were said to have overstayed their visas and were unable to produce valid travel or residence documents authorising their stay in the country.

A report published on Sunday by The Hindu said the arrests followed actionable intelligence received by security personnel during New Year celebrations.

“The Delhi Police on Sunday (January 4, 2026) said the South-West District team apprehended two African nationals who were found illegally staying in India without valid visas,” the report stated.

“The accused have been identified as Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, both Nigerian nationals. Necessary legal proceedings for their deportation have been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in RK Puram.”

The report added that the operation was carried out by the Operations Cell of the South-West District as part of a targeted crackdown on illegal foreign nationals.

“During initial questioning, the suspects claimed they entered India on tourist or business visas and said their documents had been submitted to their embassy for safekeeping.

However, verification through the Immigration Department and other official sources revealed that both had overstayed their permitted period and did not possess valid visa documents,” the report said.
