Man arrested for alleged theft of N780,000 iPhone

A 27-year-old man, Jacob Anu, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Badagry, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing an iPhone valued at N780,000.

The defendant, who was arrested on January 12, 2026, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of theft brought against him.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that Anu committed the offence on December 31, 2025, around 9:05pm at No. 3, Knowledge Fountain, Yesi area of Badagry.

He said the defendant stole an iPhone 12 Pro belonging to one Hunsu Paul, the complainant, adding that the phone was valued at N780,000.

ASP Ekpo stated that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. He said the defendant was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He directed that one of the sureties must be a company director.

The case has been adjourned until February 12 for mention.
