Three undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko have been confirmed dead following a road accident in Ilesa Osun State.

The crash which occurred on Saturday involved a commercial bus with eighteen seats and a truck on a busy section of the highway.

The Student Union President Salami Ologbon told newsmen in a telephone interview that union officials had travelled to the scene and confirmed the recovery of the corpses.

“As I speak now we are in Osun State. The deceased students have been taken to the morgue.

I sympathise with the families of the victims and the university community,” he said.

A separate statement issued by the Student Union Public Relations Officer Ajidagba Akinbobola said the ill fated bus was said to have taken off from Ojota in Lagos and was heading towards Akungba when it crashed in Ilesa in the early hours of the day.

According to the union while three AAUA students died on the spot several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injury and are receiving treatment at a hospital in Ilesa.

The SUG added that it had contacted the families of those affected to offer support and pledged to follow up on medical care for the injured.

It assured that further information would be made public as details are confirmed.
