The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, has arrested no fewer than 24,693 traffic offenders and recorded 25,324 traffic violations between January and December 2025 across the state.

The Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure.

Ibitoye said the offences ranged from speeding and dangerous driving to seat belt violations, overloading and excessive smoke emission by vehicles.

He noted that the figure represented an increase from 2024, when 22,482 offenders were arrested for 23,176 traffic offences, attributing the rise to intensified enforcement on major roads and highways.

According to him, the command doubled its patrol activities in 2025 and complemented them with mobile court operations where offenders were tried and sanctioned immediately.

The sector commander said the enforcement drive was aimed at reducing road crashes, stressing that speeding, overloading and poorly maintained vehicles posed serious dangers to motorists and other road users.

He added that the focus of the command was not only to arrest violators but to encourage a change in attitude among motorists towards safer driving habits.

Ibitoye reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to sustained enforcement, advocacy and collaboration with neighbouring commands, urging drivers and passengers to see road safety as a shared responsibility, warning that all violations would attract appropriate sanctions.
