The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged ₦33m visa scam and launched a manhunt for a third accomplice said to be on the run.
The arrests followed a petition filed by Legal Komfort & Associates on behalf of Mr Adeyeye Aderemi of Idanre, who alleged that the suspects duped him under the guise of processing a United Kingdom visa for his son.
According to the complaint, the alleged mastermind, identified as Bunmi Olowookere, reportedly conspired with others to obtain ₦33m from Aderemi in January 2025, but failed to deliver on the agreement.
Police spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement on Wednesday, said detectives swung into action immediately the report was filed, resulting in the arrest of Olowookere and one Akinlogbe Olakitan in Akure.
Preliminary findings indicated that Olowookere purportedly received ₦28m from the complainant, which she then transferred to Olakitan.
Investigators further traced the funds to one Adegboyega Samuel, who is currently at large.
Jimoh added that the Commissioner of Police has deployed advanced intelligence tools to track down the fleeing suspect.
“The suspects in custody have made useful statements and will be arraigned as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.
The Command expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for supporting efforts aimed at curbing financial crimes.
Meanwhile, the CP urged residents to exercise caution in processing travel documents, warning against dealing with unverified individuals or agencies.
