The lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Festus Akingbaso, has asked a former member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefioye, to retract an allegation made against him or present evidence to support it.
Akingbaso, through a statement on Wednesday, described the claim credited to Adefioye as false and malicious, alleging that it was aimed at attracting public sympathy after the former lawmaker’s loss of political relevance in the constituency.
Adefioye was accused of posting a WhatsApp status on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, alleging that Akingbaso made inflammatory remarks during the last governorship campaign in Idanre.
The statement said the allegation would have been ignored, as with previous claims, but for the fact that it involved the life and reputation of a prominent citizen of the state.
Akingbaso consequently demanded that Adefioye provide concrete and verifiable evidence within 48 hours or withdraw the claim entirely.
He warned that failure to do so would be regarded as a deliberate attempt to malign his character through misinformation, adding that legal options would be pursued.
The lawmaker also described the allegation as cyberbullying and an abuse of social media space, urging political actors to exercise restraint and responsibility.
He, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting Adefioye’s response.
