The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to a viral video showing a woman being subjected to degrading treatment by unidentified individuals.
Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said the command became aware of the footage circulating on social media, which captured an adult woman being confined and maltreated in what appeared to be a planned gathering.
Abubakar disclosed that the arrested individual is believed to have hosted the meeting where the assault occurred, while efforts are underway to track other culprits seen in the clip.
He said the police remain committed to ensuring all those involved are identified and prosecuted, adding that further details will be released as investigations progress.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the act, describing it as unacceptable and urging those still on the run to turn themselves in.
He assured residents of Bauchi that the command would pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.
The viral footage showed a young man repeatedly flogging a woman said to be his girlfriend, although the circumstances that led to the attack remain unclear.
