A Kano High Court has ordered the remand of two young men accused of abducting and killing a 14-year-old boy in the Mariri area of the state.
The defendants, 22-year-old Isma’il Adamu of Zara Quarters and 24-year-old Isma’il Rabiu of Maganda Quarters, were arraigned on Monday before Justice Musa Ahmad on a three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and culpable homicide.
Following their arraignment, the judge directed that both suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending trial and adjourned proceedings to January 30 for the commencement of hearing.
Presenting the case, Kano Solicitor-General, Mr. Salisu Muhammad-Tahir, told the court that the incident occurred on February 8, 2024 at Fulani Quarters, Hotoro.
He alleged that the duo connived to abduct the victim, Abdullahi Sani, and later reached out to his family demanding a ransom of N3 million, which was not paid.
According to the prosecution, the suspects subsequently lured the boy into an unfinished structure in the area and allegedly attacked him with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck, chest and shoulder.
The defendants denied the allegations when the charges were read to them.
Muhammad-Tahir noted that the offences violated Sections 97, 274 and 221 of the Penal Code.
