The national electricity grid on Friday collapsed for the first time in 2026, throwing many parts of the country into darkness.
Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator showed that power generation dropped to zero megawatts.
The agency also indicated that load allocation to the 11 electricity distribution companies fell to zero megawatts as of 1pm.
The affected distribution companies are Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja and Yola, all of which recorded zero allocation during the period.
