The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the interception of items believed to be explosive substances in Saki, located in the Oke Ogun axis of the state.
The Command, in a statement released on Sunday by its spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the recovery followed a stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives in the area.
According to the police, the truck conveying the suspicious materials was halted during the operation and immediately taken into custody, while the driver was arrested.
Ayanlade said the action was based on actionable intelligence, noting that the materials were secured promptly to prevent any security breach.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered a full-scale investigation immediately he was briefed on the incident.
He said officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit were deployed to safely handle and examine the items.
The police spokesman disclosed that the suspect is cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to determine the nature of the materials and the intent behind their movement.
