Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have successfully rescued a man abducted by suspected kidnappers at Olorunda Village, Ojongbodu, in Oyo West Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Haruna Lawal, sustained a head injury during the attack.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated in a press release on Sunday in Ibadan that the command received a distress call at about 2:10 a.m. on January 24, 2026, from a resident, Alimot, reporting that armed assailants had invaded her brother’s home.

According to Ayanlade, the kidnappers seized Lawal and escaped with his motorcycle.

“Upon receiving the report, and following the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, police operatives were immediately deployed to the area,” he said.

He added that the swift response and aggressive bush search mounted by the command forced the suspects to abandon Lawal and flee.

“As our operatives advanced with patrol vans and sirens, the kidnappers, realising that security forces were closing in, released the victim and escaped,” the spokesperson explained.

Lawal was promptly taken to the General Hospital in Oyo town, where he is receiving medical care for his injuries.

Ayanlade said the quick rescue operation, completed within hours of the abduction, demonstrated the vigilance and professionalism of the Oyo State Police.

Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing, he added.

The police appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring the public that criminals would find no safe haven in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his guidance, while commending the officers involved for their courage and commitment.
