Gunmen suspected to be bandits have again struck in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting six residents of Unguwar Barkono, Mararaban Kajuru, Kufana Ward.
The latest attack came barely hours after the Christian Association of Nigeria held a special prayer session for the safe return of 177 worshippers earlier kidnapped in Kurmin Wali.
Residents said the assailants invaded the community late Saturday night, breaking into several houses and whisking away the victims to an unknown destination.
A resident, Steven Kefas, told Vanguard that the raid occurred around 1am, noting that the incident happened within the town and not in a remote settlement.
Confirming the development, the CAN Chairman in Kajuru, Rev. Enoch Kaura, said the abduction took place around 11pm, adding that the attackers escaped with six persons after neighbours raised the alarm.
Kaura described the incident as disturbing, calling on the authorities to step up security operations in the area to prevent further attacks and secure the release of abducted persons.
“This is condemnable. Authorities should intensify security operations in Kajuru to prevent further attacks and secure the release of all abducted worshippers,” he said.
Also speaking, the CAN Chairman for the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, urged churches to strengthen internal security, warning that unrestricted access to worship centres could expose congregations to danger.
