The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police inspector during a rescue operation for a kidnapped victim, Haruna Lawal, in Oyo West Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the incident occurred at Olorunda Village, Ojongbodu axis.
According to the police, the victim was abducted in the early hours of Friday after suspected kidnappers, said to be armed with dangerous weapons, stormed his residence.
The spokesperson said the command received a distress call at about 2:10am from a woman identified as Alimot, who reported that the assailants had invaded her brother’s home and whisked him away.
He added that the kidnappers escaped with the victim’s motorcycle to an unknown location.
