Suspected terrorists have abducted six members of a family during an early-morning attack on a community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Gare Village in the Pallam District of Madagali, according to the state Police Command.

Confirming the attack in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the assailants also rustled livestock during the operation.

Nguroje disclosed that a joint team of security operatives has been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and restore calm.

He said, “The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed an attack on Gare Village, Pallam District, Madagali Local Government Area, in the early hours of today by suspected terrorists, which led to the abduction of six family members and the rustling of livestock.

“Upon receipt of the report, the command immediately strengthened collaboration and deployed additional personnel and operational assets in a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, troops of the 144 Battalion and the Civilian Joint Task Force to the affected area and neighbouring communities.”

The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, had ordered sustained search-and-rescue operations, intensified patrols and increased security presence across Madagali and other border communities.

According to him, the measures are aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted persons and preventing further security breaches.

Nguroje said the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, remained committed to the protection of lives and property across the state, adding that updates would be provided as operations continue.

Meanwhile, Governor Fintiri on Tuesday commenced a tour of the 21 local government areas of the state to assess the security situation and other challenges facing residents.

Adamawa has recorded a series of violent incidents in recent times.

Last week, an attack in Hong Local Government Area reportedly left 12 persons dead, with several houses destroyed.

Earlier this year, a communal clash between the Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area claimed over 20 lives.
