The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug peddlers in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, recovering cash and substances believed to be illicit drugs.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team and the Anti-Cultism Squad as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb related criminal activities within the Enugu metropolis.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said the operations yielded a cash sum of N1.8m, large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis and other hard drugs, as well as several exhibits believed to be linked to criminal activities.

According to him, operatives of the SWAT Team, acting on credible intelligence, on January 26, 2026, at about 11:30am, raided a suspected criminal hideout located behind New Market, Enugu, where a 46-year-old woman, Omeru Nkechi, was arrested.

Ndukwe said items recovered from the suspect included a large bag of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, a big roll of wire, six rolls of 1.5mm electrical wires, assorted wire off-cuts, a water-pumping machine, a Point-of-Sale machine, two ATM cards and the sum of N1.8m.

In a related operation, the Anti-Cultism Squad, while on crime-prevention patrol and acting on actionable intelligence, raided identified black spots in Obeagu, Asata and the Holy Ghost Railway area on January 25, 2026, at about 9am.

Three male suspects — Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20) and Nwachukwu Michael (27) — were arrested during the operation, with Nwachukwu alleged to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
