Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested six suspects over the alleged hacking of a telecommunications company’s system and the diversion of airtime and mobile data valued at about ₦7.7bn.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led investigations.
According to the police, the suspects unlawfully accessed the core network infrastructure of the telecom firm, enabling them to manipulate its systems and siphon large volumes of airtime and data for personal gain.
Hundeyin added that investigations were ongoing to determine the full scope of the breach, identify other possible accomplices and recover the diverted assets.
