The Lagos State Police Command has dispersed a group of protesters in the Ikeja area of the state and arrested two persons over alleged acts of public disorder, following hours of disruption along Awolowo Road and adjoining routes.
The command said the protesters converged under the Ikeja Under-Bridge and blocked major roads leading to Alausa and the Lagos State House of Assembly, causing heavy traffic congestion and restricting movement for several hours.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement.
According to her, the protest paralysed activities along Awolowo Way for more than six hours, preventing residents from accessing hospitals, the airport and other critical locations, while also disrupting commercial activities in the area.
Adebisi said the protesters arrived with a coffin, mounted loudspeakers and engaged in actions that allegedly triggered panic among motorists and residents.
“Reports were received of sick persons fainting in their vehicles after being trapped in traffic for prolonged periods. Officers exercised restraint while trying to manage the situation and restore order,”
