Suspected gunmen have launched a deadly attack on Okporojo community in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, with residents reporting multiple deaths and the abduction of several persons.
Sources said the assailants stormed the community in an ambush, setting houses ablaze and shooting indiscriminately before fleeing with some residents.
Eyewitnesses claimed that a number of villagers were killed during the invasion, while others were forcefully taken away by the attackers.
A video circulating on social media showed several buildings engulfed in flames, as distressed residents appealed to the state government and security agencies for urgent intervention.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Police Command and the state government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The attack has heightened fear among residents of surrounding communities, amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the state.
