A middle-aged man, simply identified as Goke, slumped and died while attempting to cross the road in the Ogbonmo area of Owo, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, attracted the attention of passers-by, who gathered at the scene and recorded videos in a bid to help identify the man and locate his family.

In a video sighted by Weekend HOPE and shared on Facebook by a user, Adeyemi Kendrick, the man’s Android phone and a pharmacy receipt were seen beside him at the scene.

A narrator in the seven-minute, 53-second video said, “Today, Thursday, it is very unfortunate.

“This gentleman slumped here at Ogbonmo. I think he wanted to cross the road after buying some drugs that were given to him. In the process, he slumped. Nobody has been able to identify him.

“The phone is here, an Android phone but nobody has been able to unlock it. Nobody has been able to identify him. Our prayer is not to die young.”

The incident has since generated mixed reactions on social media.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Jimoh Kazeem, said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue.

He said, “The police received a report of a lifeless body lying on the road opposite Chinare Pharmacy, Owo, from a concerned citizen.”

He added, “Immediately, our operatives were deployed to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed his name to be Goke; however, the body has been removed and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre mortuary, Owo, while investigation is ongoing.”
