The Osun State Police Command has intensified search-and-rescue operations following the abduction of two residents of Ora-Igbomina, a border community between Osun and Kwara states.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped late on Sunday from a private residence along the Aran–Orin Road in the Papa area of the town.
The abducted persons were identified as Sunday Oyekanmi Adeyeye, also known as Tayese, and Sunday Adewumi.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abiodun Ojelabi, said operatives were immediately mobilised after the command received information about the attack.
According to him, the abduction occurred around 11:45pm during heavy rainfall, which had earlier forced a police patrol team in the area to temporarily withdraw.
“The incident happened close to midnight. Due to the downpour, our patrol team had returned to base, and it was during that period that the suspects carried out the attack,” Ojelabi said.
He added that the command had launched a coordinated operation involving patrol units and intelligence gathering to track the perpetrators and secure the victims’ release.
“The two men were taken away, but search-and-rescue teams were deployed immediately after the report was received.
We are combing the surrounding areas and possible escape routes,” he added.
Residents of the community told our correspondent that the attackers arrived in large numbers and fired shots into the air to scare residents before forcefully entering the house.
The incident has heightened tension in the area, recalling a similar case in December 2025 when a retired officer of the Nigerian Customs Service, Emmanuel Owolabi, was abducted in the same community.
Owolabi was later released in January 2026 at Oro Ago in Kwara State after spending several weeks in captivity.
