No fewer than six persons have been confirmed dead, while 23 others sustained injuries in a lone accident that occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near the Four Square Camp area of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Mr Odunsin Afolabi, in Abeokuta.

Afolabi said the crash occurred at about 11:27am and involved a DAF CF 380 trailer with registration number SNA 287 XA.

He explained that operatives of the FRSC from the Ogunmakin Unit Command arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and commenced rescue operations.

According to him, a total of 29 persons were involved in the accident, with 23 sustaining varying degrees of injuries, while six victims died instantly.

The FRSC spokesperson attributed the crash to driver fatigue and excessive speeding, which reportedly led to loss of control of the vehicle.

He warned motorists against conveying passengers alongside cattle or goods, noting that such practices often worsen the impact of crashes and hinder rescue efforts.

Afolabi said the injured victims, as well as the remains of the deceased, were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital at the GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.

He reiterated the corps’ call on motorists, especially drivers of commercial and articulated vehicles, to ensure regular vehicle maintenance, avoid speeding and strictly comply with traffic rules to curb road crashes on major highways.
