The Kwara State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the deadly attack on two communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly left over 100 persons dead.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin.

According to the police, the investigation is aimed at tracking down those responsible for the attack and ensuring they are brought to justice.

The command confirmed that the assault on Woro community occurred on February 3, 2026, at about 5:30pm, when suspected assailants invaded the area and unleashed violence on residents.

Preliminary findings indicated that the attackers, believed to be religious extremists, stormed the community, firing shots and setting houses and shops ablaze, resulting in significant loss of lives and property.

The victims were later given a mass burial.

Following the incident, the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services, Michael Oganwu, the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig.-Gen. N.N. Rume, and other senior security and government officials, visited the affected community on February 4, 2026.

The delegation conducted an on-the-spot assessment and commiserated with the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, as well as families affected by the attack.

The police said a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military and the National Forest Guards has been deployed to the area to restore law and order, prevent further attacks and reassure residents of their safety.

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Woro community, praying for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives.

The command advised members of the public to contact the police through emergency lines 07032069501 or 08125275046 for distress calls or useful information.
