The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two men suspected to be involved in armed robbery and recovered firearms during separate intelligence-driven operations in Ajegunle and Ojo areas of the state.

The police said operatives swung into action after receiving credible intelligence on the activities of hoodlums who allegedly use commercial motorcycles to carry out attacks on unsuspecting members of the public.

In Ajegunle, operatives of the Command Tactical Team, Thunder Blast, were deployed to the area following reports of criminal activities.

The operation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect, Waheed Orelope.

A locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from him during a preliminary search, the police said.

In a related development, officers attached to the Surveillance Team of the Ojo Division carried out an operation around the Iyana-Iba under-bridge area, which had reportedly been taken over by suspected hoodlums, posing a threat to commuters and residents.

The operation resulted in the arrest of another suspect, 29-year-old Wasiu Shonibare, from whom a locally fabricated pistol was recovered.

Confirming the arrests, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspects were currently in custody while investigations were ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal activities.

He added that efforts were being intensified to track down other members of the suspected gangs, assuring that further updates would be made public as investigations progressed.
